Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials including local family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.

The Sibley Public Library welcomes your requests for genealogy research. The staff will do requests, as time permits, as long as you have specific dates. The library charges $5/request/name to cover the cost of research time, copies and postage. Iowa books are also available and since many of these books are irreplaceable, the library does not send out Iowa books on Interlibrary Loan. The library also has cemetery records available through December 2006 for all of the cemeteries in Osceola County. We are very thankful to Howard Radunz of Ocheyedan who completed the records by walking all of the cemeteries. If your relatives did not have a tombstone their information is probably not included in this book. You are welcome to do your own research, however, please check the library’s hours before making a trip to Sibley.

We also have a new database that searches the digital versions of past Sibley newspapers. Feel free to click on the Digital Newspaper Archive logo on the left-hand side of the website to search for topics, names, and dates that you are trying to find information about. This will take you to a digitized version of the article that you are searching for. If you have any questions please contact the library staff.
